A pregnant woman and her husband in Honolulu, Hawaii were handcuffed and arrested after being detained by a Safeway supermarket for unintentionally not paying for a couple sandwiches totaling $5. Their daughter was taken away and was in state custody overnight.
I’m not a lawyer, and don’t have the answers theses questions, but I would like to know:
What right does a private security person have to detain you?
Why were they still detained after it was obvious that it was a mistake?
Why were they still arrested after it was obvious that it was a mistake?
Why were they still detained after they tried to pay for the damn sandwich in full?
Why were they still arrested after they tried to pay for the damn sandwich in full?
This is a failure not only of law and law enforcement, but of this stupid supermarket chain. Why on earth would your policy be to arrest people for honest mistakes and then refuse to let them make it right by refusing payment? I really hope that Safeway suffers loss of business and protests for this.
Unfortunately, this sort of thing is not unheard of. You would think that businesses of any size would, all things being equal, desire good relations with the public. Imagine you or someone you know being arrested unfairly after being detained/turned in by a business. They would tell many of their friends. They may even get on Facebook and tell a hundred or a thousand. You would think that Safeway would not want that sort of bad publicity. It can’t be good for sales!
Why is it that we have to worry about not only government tyranny, but also corporate tyranny? In part, because government tyranny enables corporate tyranny! Why was the store security person not instead charged with false imprisonment and arrested? Must we submit to not only government law enforcement officers, but private “security” personnel working for any business? Are we such sheep in America now that we’ll let anyone in professional attire be gods over us?
Osama bin Laden has been killed by U.S. forces, according to sources. President Obama is expected to make an announcement at 10:30 PM EST May 1, 2011.
It is thought that Osama bin Laden had been hiding in the border region between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
He was killed by a U.S. firefight, by JSOC (Joint Special Operations Command), at a mansion near the Pakistani capitol Islamabad, after intelligence information revealed his position.
The problem:
Of course, most of us are glad that this monster was finally found and removed from the living. The problem is the legal precedent, the lack of constitutional allowance. U.S. presidents can apparently just kill who they want. Obama certainly isn’t the first. Of course, most would be in agreement that Osama deserved death, certainly including me, but it’s a legal slippery slope. First it’s a mass murderer of 3000 people, but could this wild card presidential power (along with the Patriot Act mess) be turned against our own citizens? Might an innocent, law-abiding militia or outside-the-box political group be someday designated as “terrorists” and therefore subject to killing, imprisonment or life-crippling harassment?
In a move unprecedented in American history, the Obama Administration quietly banned the re-importation of nearly one million American made M1 Garand and Carbine rifles.
The M1 Garand, developed in the late 1930’s, carried the United States through World War II seeing action in every major battle.
General Patton at the time called the M1 Garand “the greatest battle implement ever devised.”
The rifle is largely credited with giving American soldiers the advantage and securing victory for the allies.
During the Korean War, nearly one million of these rifles were brought to South Korea and left with the South Korean government afterward.
Now, South Korea wants to give American gun collectors the chance to get their hands on this unique piece of history.
A piece of American history that Barack Obama would like to see go down the memory hole.
That’s why I want as many Americans as possible to put themselves on record opposing this gun ban by signing the Official Firearms Freedom Survey the National Association for Gun Rights has prepared for you.
Will you please join me?
After World War II, the United States government sent millions of these rifles overseas to our allies and friends.
Over the past 50 years, many of the countries we lent them to returned them to America to be bought and sold by firearms collectors.
This is nothing new.
Make no mistake; these rifles were made in America, by Americans, for Americans, to defend freedom on foreign shores.
As a part of our history, they are greatly sought after by American shooters and collectors.
But according to Hillary Clinton’s State Department there is a danger they might “fall into the wrong hands.”
That they might, possibly, one day be used in a crime.
No mention of the hundreds of thousands of gun owners deprived of the opportunity to own an integral part of American history.
The State Department’s outrageous claims are nothing more than a thinly veiled ploy to distract from the real issue:
President Obama’s deep seated hatred for gun rights.
While his gun-grabbing base is giddy with praise at this back-door gun ban, law-abiding citizens across the United States are crying foul.
Let me be clear: at no time in U.S. history has the ownership of this firearm — or any part of this firearm — been illegal, restricted or banned.
Americans have collected World War II M1 Garand and Carbine rifles for decades.
Now they are sold through the Civilian Marksmanship Program.
You can even purchase a newly manufactured model from Springfield Armory that was made just a month or two ago.
And the M1 Garand’s caliber or capacity is no more dangerous than the millions of modern firearms owned by Americans across the country today.
As you can see, there is absolutely no justification for this unconstitutional gun ban.
This is just the latest in a series of anti-gun schemes from the Obama Administration:
*** New BATFE regulations on semi-automatic rifles, requiring firearms dealers to act as an informant to anti-gun federal bureacrats if someone buys more than one rifle;
*** The Disarming American Citizens Act (H.R. 2159 in the last Congress) letting Attorney General Eric Holder revoke the Second Amendment rights of ANY American he chooses based on pure suspicion;
*** Notorious anti-gunners appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court and other senior administration positions;
That’s why it is essential that Americans like you and I take a stand against the M1 Garand gun ban!
It has been common practice since the end of World War II to re-import these American made rifles from the foreign allies they were lent to during the war.
But the Obama Administration departs radically from the American tradition.
In fact, on top of banning American citizens from owning these historic firearms, Obama’s State Department is arranging for the destruction of nearly one million of them — ironically, at a time of ballooning federal deficits.
It’s an outrage!
These firearms — truly pieces of American history — rightly belong in the hands of U.S. citizens.
That’s why I was glad to hear that the National Association for Gun Rights is helping fight this power grab in the U.S. Senate.
Do you believe the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Second Amendment are the supreme law of the land?
Do you believe that President Obama banning the re-importation of these historic firearms is an unprecedented and unconstitutional power grab?
Do you support Congress forcing President Obama to reverse his ban and save these American made rifles from destruction?
If you said “Yes” to these questions, please sign the Firearms Freedom Survey the National Association for Gun Rights has prepared for you.
Your survey will put you squarely on the record AGAINST Barack Obama’s Rifle Ban.
And along with your signed survey, I hope you’ll send a generous contribution of $250, $100, $50 or even just $35 to help finance this battle.
With your generous contribution, the National Association for Gun Rights will continue contacting Second Amendment supporters to turn up the heat on targeted U.S. Senators.
Not only that, but they’re preparing a massive program to launch the designed to force President Obama to reverse this ban.
Direct mail. Phones. E-mail. Blogs. Guest editorials. Press conferences. Hard-hitting internet, newspaper, radio and even TV ads if funding permits. The whole nine yards.
Of course, a program of this scale is only possible if the National Association for Gun Rights can raise the money.
But that’s not easy.
So please put yourself on record AGAINST Barack Obama’s Rifle Ban by signing NAGR’s Firearms Freedom Survey.
And every dollar counts in this fight so even if you can only chip in $10 or $20, your help will still make a difference.
Thank you in advance for your time and money devoted to defending our Second Amendment rights.
For Freedom, Rand Paul United States Senator

Brace for future inflation! The most brilliant solution that the federal government can come up with is to buy government bonds, which is to effectively print more money, exactly as Peter Schiff and other intelligent economists predicted!
Instead of doing the right things to fix the economy, they do the dumbest, most desperate and wrong thing they can. What, are we in Zimbabwe? This economy would take off like a rocket if they’d do the right things like get rid of unnecessary regulations, drastically reduce government spending, drastically reduce personal and business taxes, business red tape and harassment, selling off government assets, and removing punishing factors for people doing well for themselves. Oh, but I guess those ideas would make too much sense.

Silver Circle is a computer-animated movie slated for spring 2011 about massive economic collapse, government tyranny and an out of control Federal Reserve.
I love to ask taboo, but extremely important questions. One of very few cherished principles in America, that it seems everyone agrees on (and you’re demonized if you don’t) is that everyone can vote once they reached 18. But if you step back and think about this, it’s very, very irrational. It is beyond absurd to believe the average person has any idea about how a nation, foreign policy and the economy should be run.
The founding fathers only intended for landowners to vote. That might be roughly comparable to the idea of a millionaire today. It is certainly no guarantee the person will have any sense, but it’s something. I do certainly agree that all races should vote. As with slavery, that was a severe blemish and contradiction in the founding of the United States to begin with. Equal rights is one of the very, very few improvements the U.S. has made on freedom since it’s founding.
John Stossel asks if some people are too dumb to vote. Personally, I think the criteria should be less about knowing facts and more about deep understanding about how the government, foreign policy and the economy works.
What if you had to be 30 to vote? How about 40? Maybe people that get too old and senile shouldn’t vote either?
Just something to think about.
The hard truth is, that there is much more that makes America work (or did make America work when America worked) than Democracy. Why is it so taboo and unacceptable to question whether most people have any mental capability to determine how best to run a nation?
Good stuff from one of my man-freedom and true social justice heroes, Marc Rudov. As usual, Marc makes the rational argument against this unfair lawsuit, while his opponent can only make highly emotional “arguments” citing the “jerk factor”. Sorry, lady, I don’t think it should be the government’s role to avenge every incidence of jerkiness for you. Get a brain, take responsibility for yourself and avoid jerks!
Woman to Obama: “Quite frankly, I’m exhausted. I’m exhausted of defending you, defending your administration, defending the mantle of change that I voted for, and deeply disappointed with where we are right now. I have been told that I voted for a man who said he was going to change things in a meaningful way for the middle class. I’m one of those people. And I’m waiting, sir. I’m waiting. I — I don’t feel it yet … Is this my new reality?”
The woman politely, but firmly confronts Obama on the change she expected for her vote. But why would she have expected any different from a liberal? For a CFO, she must not understand how a free economy works. No sane businessman/businesswoman is inspired to expand or hire by a liberal regime! And in case anybody doesn’t get it, business owners (large or small) being discouraged causes the economy and hiring to fail, not succeed. Is that really, really so hard for people to understand? Apparently so, for most.

I do understand being tired of apologizing. I am tired of apologizing for neo-con type Republicans, which is why I’m not calling myself Republican anymore.
